Ceramic Coating

What Ceramic Coating Actually Does to Your Paint
"Ceramic coating" gets thrown around a lot, and half the confusion is that people picture it as a fancier version of wax. It isn't. At ATD Automotive Tint & Detail, we apply Gtechniq ceramic coatings, which chemically bond to your vehicle's clear coat and form a semi-permanent layer of protection — not something that washes off in a few months.
Here's what that bond actually gets you:
Real chemical resistance. Florida's environment is brutal on paint — salt air near the coast, bug splatter, bird droppings, tree sap, and relentless UV. A quality coating creates a barrier that resists etching and staining from all of it far better than wax or sealant ever could.
A finish that looks wet, even dry. Gtechniq coatings are known for a deep, glass-like gloss that makes even a daily driver look like it just left a detail shop.
Hydrophobic performance that actually saves you time. Water beads and sheets off a coated surface instead of clinging to it, which means less dirt sticks in the first place and washes are genuinely faster and easier.
Longevity measured in years, not months. Depending on the coating tier and how the car is maintained, a professional application can protect your paint for several years — a completely different category from a wax that's gone after a couple of rain storms.
Ceramic Coating vs. Wax vs. PPF
These three get lumped together, but they solve different problems:
Wax gives short-term shine and minimal protection — think weeks, not years.
Ceramic coating bonds to the clear coat for long-term gloss and chemical resistance.
PPF (paint protection film) is a physical film, built to absorb rock chips and impacts — something no coating or wax can do.
Many of our clients run PPF on high-impact areas (front bumper, hood) and ceramic coating over the rest of the vehicle for the best of both.
What the Process Looks Like
Before any coating goes on, we correct the paint — removing swirl marks, light scratches, and oxidation so the coating is applied to a genuinely clean, level surface. Coating over unprepped paint just locks in the imperfections it's meant to hide.
Is It Worth It for a Daily Driver?
If you're keeping the car more than a year or two and want to spend less time washing and more time actually enjoying it, yes. It's not just for exotics — some of our most satisfied coating customers drive SUVs and trucks that see daily Florida sun and salt air.
